Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of FENS, I like to welcome you all to Barcelona and the 8th FENS Forum of Neuroscience. The biennial FENS Forum provides a unique opportunity to meet and discuss the most recent advances in basic neuroscience, mechanisms of the many diseases of the brain and clinical research. The programme of the FENS Forum is second to none, and attracts a world- wide audience. It includes plenary and special lectures, a variety of symposia, technical workshops, selected from proposals by the neuroscience community. As always, a large part of the Forum is devoted to poster presentations to allow an efficient interaction between participants.

The FENS Forum 2012 presents one major change to that of previous Forums, all scientific information, except for a brief overview program, is "paperless". Abstracts and the detailed program are accessible through a variety of electronic tools. This represents a significant advance in the approach to scientific meetings, and limits the vast waste of paper. We hope you will find these tools useful.

The Forum is hosted by the Spanish Society of Neuroscience. The Host Society Committee, chaired by Maria del Mar Dierssen Sotos, has prepared an attractive set of scientific and social events, which, I am sure, will make the FENS Forum 2012 in Barcelona to a memorable event for each participant.

We very much hope that you will enjoy all aspects of the FENS Forum 2012 in Barcelona!

Most welcome,

Sten Grillner,
President of FENS
